La possibilité d’émettre des factures électroniques au Mexique a commencé à partir de l’année 2004. En 2010, la modalité s’appelait Comprobantes Fiscales Digitales (CFD). A partir du 1° Juillet 2011, sont entrés en vigueur les Comprobantes Fiscales Digitales por Internet (CFDI).
Leur émission sera obligatoire, selon la SHCP (ministère mexicain de l’économie), pour les contribuables ayant des revenus supérieurs à 4 millions de pesos (environ 230 000 d’euros) et ceux qui utilisaient les CFD en passant par un tiers autorisé.
